The peacock is India’s national bird and our love for the peacock is evident everywhere, in art, literature, legends. It is such a graceful bird with its long beautiful tail with its iridescent blue and green plumage, mostly metallic blue and green. The peacock train consists not of tail quill feathers, but highly elongated upper tail coverts which are marked with mesmerizing eyespots. The eyespots that characterize the peacock are some of the most beautiful and coveted feathers in the world. Both sexes have a crest atop the head. The peafowl is native to India and significant in its culture over thousands of years.
