Featured animal: Brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis)

Location: Galveston, USA
This painting is from Galveston, Texas which was given the honorary title of ‘Bird City’, where I stayed for a month. Galveston Island and Pelican Island are linked by a causeway (bridge) and have some of the best coastal water birds. The pelicans are a sight to watch as they rest on any available spot while fishing in the sea, be it wooden posts or fishing boats, and the way they tuck their beaks while resting. Galveston’s marshy nature preserves host an amazing variety of wetland birds that are either migratory or come there for nesting. The daily sight of pelicans flying in groups never ceases to amaze and thrill wildlife lovers.
