Featured animal: Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris)
Location: Ranthambore National Park, India
This beautiful portrait is of a Bengal tiger, photographed by Mr. Bobby Bharghawa in Ranthambore. We see a tiger with its reflection as it crosses shallow water. A white throated kingfisher watches from its perch on a mango tree as the tiger walks below. He is after all the king of the jungle and therefore his walk is royal, without a care in the world. His only enemies are other tigers and he knows he is king here in his territory.
The blue water reflects Rajasthan’s cloudless sky and the orange reflection at the top corner is one of the old palaces, which the kings of Rajasthan used to use during hunts. Now they are used by the tigers and you can find iconic photographs of tigers walking and standing in these buildings on the net. Nowhere else in the world can you find such photographs in the wild.
