Featured animal: Indian leopard (Panthera pardus fusca)

Location: Any forest landscape in India
This work of a leopard drinking water at a waterhole is intriguing because it highlights the need for all the animals to be alert to the threats from the water, especially from crocodiles which cruise along the water’s edge waiting for an unwary victim. The urge to drink water is very basic and the leopard is vulnerable at this time. The intense gaze is trying to gauge whether it needs to run away or stay and drink water. I loved the colors in this work of the leopard blending into the mud bank.
